Assessment for tenancy

We structure our pupillage carefully such that we aim to strike the right balance between training and assessment.  With this in mind, you will not be formally assessed during your first 2 months of pupillage, during which you will be finding your feet within Chambers and trying to master the shift from the academic study of law to the practical side.

We have a clear and transparent system for assessment for tenancy:

  • your pupil supervisors will provide written feedback on your performance
  • we will set you 2 formal written exercises
  • we run 4 assessed advocacy exercises (after each of which you will be given immediate and detailed feedback to help you improve)
  • members of chambers for whom you have done work will be asked to comment on your performance 

A decision will then be taken by the Tenancy Committee who will make a recommendation to the Executive Committee.
