Prospects of tenancy

Our standards are high, and you will be expected to work hard during pupillage with us.  However, the focus of our pupillage is training you to achieve the standards required for a successful career at the Bar.

Whilst it’s impossible to indicate your prospects of being taken on without having seen your work, what we can tell you is that we:

  • aim to recruit new tenants from our own pupils
  • have a fair and structured system for assessing you for tenancy
  • have sufficient physical space for new members
  • have a strong track record in recruiting from our pupils, and in assisting those who are not taken on in finding a third six elsewhere

Tenancy decisions are made in July. Unlike in many other sets, the recommendation to Chambers as to whether a pupil should be granted tenancy is made by a specialist committee which consists of your pupil supervisors and those involved in the advocacy and written exercises.  In other words, the recommendation will be made by those members of Chambers who are in the best position objectively to assess your performance.
